Aimpoint Comp M4, the prolific optic system

Aimpoint is one of the most trusted names in the optics system and their Aimpoint Comp M4 is one of their most saleable products. It has one of the longest battery lives among contemporaries in the market. The Aimpoint Comp M4 is available for a price of $700 in the market, making it impossible for everyone to get their hands on this fine product. This is not a problem for users who can’t afford it as Aimpoint is known to manufacture similar products of the same quality in a lower price range as well. The reason why it is priced so high is because of its ability to withstand impact, dust, dirt, mud, extreme cold and hot temperatures as well as its ability to function in deep water.

The features
It has a sealed reflex sight which has a 2 MOA (Minutes of Angle) doubt that on its setting to lower parameters can be pretty precise art and over 100 meters. With increasing the brightness it becomes larger to the naked eye than 2 MOA and also creates a nice big ring where the tube meets the glass, which is unnoticeable until you are actually using it. It is more noticeable on focused groups. There are also 7 brightness settings for Night Vision and 9 levels of brightness for daylight out of which the “Extra Bright” turns it into a 40mm red light in your face.

Once you get the sealed covers off the elevation and windage, the sighting is pretty easy.  The half an inch at 100 meter adjustment is covered with anodized aluminium and full gaskets so that they are easy to take off with or without gloves and are strong enough to prevent them from winding themselves off. You do not have to worry about eye relief or parallax because if the red dot is placed on a spot, then it will maintain that line of shot when the trigger is pulled. The life expectancy per AA battery is about eight years and the battery compartment is also fully anodized with a gasket.

The mount
Aimpoint uses their QRP2 mount, it is a quick release mount which is not a lever operated release but a screw down mount with a ratcheting knob. When the mount is tightened onto a rail and will click when it reaches a significant resistance to prevent over tightening or stripping the mount. In all, it is a compact, reliable and rugged optical system which is value for money.

Ex-US Rep. Gabby Giffords attends NY gun show

Ex-US Rep. Gabby Giffords attends NY gun show

A smiling Gabrielle Giffords toured rows of tables loaded with rifles and handguns Sunday in her first visit to a gun show since surviving a 2011 shooting, and pleaded afterward for people to come together to stop gun violence.

The issues over gun control have caused some people to lose faith in their government

Just like any other storekeeper, I sweep the floors, clean the glass display cabinets, stock the shelves and take one last look to make sure everything is as it should be before turning on the “Open” sign and unlocking the door for business.

9mm Short-Barrel Choice: We’d Carry 124-Grain Speer Gold Dots

9mm Short-Barrel Choice: We’d Carry 124-Grain Speer Gold Dots
Among the most-popular concealed-carry handguns is the 9mm compact pistol. From the immensely popular mini Glocks to the Sig P290, there are quite a few pistols of this type in service. That’s not hard to understand why: in the same frame size, the 9mm is more powerful than the 380 ACP, and when compared to a similarly sized wheelgun, most 9mms offer more shots than a 38 Special. But many carriers who like the portability of a small 9mm pistol with a lot of shots worry how the 9mm compact’s terminal ballistics compare to the same rounds shot out of a full-size gun.

Outfitting Your Rifle: We Try Triggers, Stocks, and Magazines
In the September 2013 issue we tested three of the AR-15 rifle types, and found some limitations among them. For example, we replaced the horrid trigger in the Bushmaster Carbon-15 with one of the excellent Geissele (pronounced GUYS-lee) SSA-E triggers. That trigger was such a revelation we immediately wanted to replace the triggers in the other two with the aftermarket ones on hand, but waited until now to try them.

Gun Tests readers dig into head-to-head rifle tests to see if a big-ticket item is something they may want to buy. But there are always some less-expensive products that we use during firearms testing which deserve mention when they deliver a lot utility for the buck. Here are three accessories used in the July 2013 CZ 527 Special Report and the September 2013 17 HMR story we thought were worth the money.

Affordable Defense Shotguns: Benelli, Stevens, CZ Compete

Affordable Defense Shotguns: Benelli, Stevens, CZ Compete
Unlike the conflicts with bad guys depicted on television and in the movies, a home owner in a self-defense situation will rarely fire more than one or two shots. In most cases, the owner of a firearm specifically designed to stop the threat of an intruder will never fire even one shot in their home because they will never be put in such a position.

Down Range: October 2013
In the August 2013 issue, Ray Ordorica compared two full-size 9mm pistols, a surplus CZ 75 (about $350) and a new Tokarev M70A, made in Serbia by Zastava (about $330). The CZ, designed in 1975 and with more than a million having been built, is one of very few DA/SA pistols that can be carried cocked and locked. The CZ is big and stout enough that even the hottest 9mm ammo with the heaviest bullets would hardly kick enough to disturb the composure of the weakest-handed shooter.

Magpul UBR Stock review

Magpul UBR Stock review

“Magpul” is company in Colorado, USA dealing in firearms accessories, manufacturer and designer. “UBR” stands for “Utility/Battle Rifle” and a review on Magpul UBR (Utility/Battle Rifle) Stock is on the card. The features of Magpul UBR are well acclaimed by the users and has pin-pointed specially on its – Adjustable stock for AR15/M16 / Fixed check piece / Proprietary looking system /front and read referable push button / accommodating  large bore AR calibers./ Compatible with carbine buffers and action spring  / Rubber butt pad .

Apart from its unbelievably cool look, it is in demand for its fixed cheekpiece facilitating your adjustable Magpul stock and a consistent cheekweld too. You will have same piece of smoothness each and every time wherever your length of pull is set. Magpul UBR carries a few specifications a) Weight, w/ Entry Receiver Extension: 1.63 lb. b) Weight: 1.46 lb. c) Length, Stock: 8.00-11.36 in. d) LOP Adjustment: 7-Position (0.56 in. / position) 8) LOP Adjustment: 3.36 in.

Even it adjusts smaller shooters. It has been rated 5 stars 1) it is truly straightforward 2) Magpul manual is concise and easily readable. 3)  Everything is with zero fuss and muss. 4) All the pieces of Magpul stock move in perfect harmony. 5)  It has got no slack, wobble or rattles. The whole piece is well made. The UBR functions very smooth. The length of pull adjustment is crisp with a nice audible snap. It remains locked when you have locked it. The UBR is hell bent for stout. The fixed cheekpiece is a godsend. Shooting is computable. The Magpul UBR has reversible sling swivel attachment points and carries a nifty little storage area. You can also add an aluminum strike plate if you want to perform various breaching operations as well as Close Quarters Battle butt-stroking maneuvers.

It is husky. Some users may find a bit problem. For benchrest shooting, it makes a concern. But if you are choosing to build a lightweight carbine, you may prefer another model i.e. Magpul’s stocks. The UBR just weighs too much. One must try for muscle it around. However, this gun’s status ranks as stationary scope tester.
While taking an Overall Rating, it is the best. It has got a consistent cheekweld and still adjusts the length of pull for smaller shooters or for bulky. UBR is undoubtedly well-built and will most likely outlast all users. However, it’s just too heavy. Everybody wishes to see a lighter model by Magpul within some time. This design is just too cool to not get some R&D tweaking.

Military Grade VS Law Enforcement Equipment

While warzone and law enforcement operations might have many things in common, there are quite a few distinct differences when it comes to designing their respective equipment and accessories. This is why, when buying weapons and accessories, you must know what you want to use them for and in what situations. Military grade equipment, more often than not, is designed for extremely dangerous situations where combat is expected with quite some certainty, while law enforcement equipment emphasizes on protection, intimidation and safety.

To be deemed military grade a weapon or accessory has to be made with special materials and its design must have been tried and tested in many situations. Of course many military grade accessories are used in law enforcement operations, but being of a more pacifist nature the latter include products useless in the military.

While rifles are the weapons of choice of most soldiers, handguns and shotguns are usually used by law enforcement officers. The latter can be easily concealed and are very powerful in close quarter combat. This way a law enforcement officer can remain neutral until his weapon is needed, without intimidating the public, while a soldier pretty much must look like a soldier all the time.

Most law enforcement operations happen in an urban environment, where there are many innocent bystanders. A law enforcement officer is thus forced to work in very close combat or limited sight situations. This calls for superior maneuverability and efficiency. A soldier will most often operate with fewer restrictions and will need more power and the ability to overwhelm.

In law enforcement you need accessories that help you keep your suspect alive, while in military situations this is by far rarer as military grade equipment is not designed to be used for deterrence.

Having read all of the above, one can draw some clear conclusions about what type of equipment someone needs depending on the type of operation one needs it for. Law enforcement equipment is meant for close quarter combat and is usually used more to intimidate than to strike. Military equipment is meant to be deadly and accurate preferably from a long distance.

Often there is an issue of compatibility depending on if the weapon you bought is for commercial or military use. This is why you have to decide for one of the two for most accessories. Many accessories from superior product lines are compatible with both types of equipment, like many sights and flashlights.

So, if you want something to protect you in the city or your home, or if you are a law enforcement officer of any kind, you should prefer law enforcement equipment for sure. Military grade equipment is best suited for veterans, collectors and people living in dangerous open spaces.

If you intend to use your gun, either for self protection or for sport, you should choose what suits your needs best, because not all weapons are equally suited for every situation you will face. Choose your equipment wisely, having your goal in mind, and you can’t go amiss.

The Advantages Of Using Accessories Made By Grip Pod

Weapons require a horde of accessories to enhance their utility and to make operations more convenient. Both the military and civil law enforcement agencies require accessories for almost every type of weapon they use. While the term accessories may imply that their utility is purely additional to the primary function of the weapons, in reality that is not the case. Accessories are very much an integral and crucial functional fixture of any weapon. Many weapons are purely judged or graded based on the quality and range of accessories they use. The specific utilities of accessories can make a weapon more potent or less effective. Among the many companies that make weapon accessories, Grip Pod stands as the numero uno choice for many reasons.

There are several advantages of using accessories made by Grip Pod. First, the patented Grip Pod which is the flagship product of the company is unique and much superior to all forward grip bipods that are made in the US or used by militaries of different countries across the world. The Grip Pod is easy to use, lightweight and reliable. It is simple and quick to deploy and is phenomenally durable. Grip Pod has two variants. One is made of reinforced polymer which is used by the military and the other is made of space age polymer which is typically used by civil law enforcement agencies. Both are an imperative accessory for any preserver of law and order and protector of freedom.

Second, Grip Pod accessories are tested on the field for their utility and efficacy. Many weapons and accessories are tested in simulated environments. It is not uncommon to find accessories not tested in real battlefields. However realistic simulations can get, they cannot be exactly similar to how the real situation would be. Being tested on the ground and by real soldiers during warring times, Grip Pod comes with unprecedented and unparallel surety of its utility, durability and efficacy. No other major accessory maker does field testing to an extent that Grip Pod does.

Third, Grip Pod has been hailed for having the quickest deployment time. The bipod for instance, can be deployed with a simple push of a button and it takes two tenths of a second to get deployed. The light weight along with convenient and fast deployment makes Grip Pod the maker of the most desirable accessories used by the military and law enforcement agencies.

Second-Generation Cap & Ball Colt Sixguns in 36 and 44 Cal.

Second-Generation Cap & Ball Colt Sixguns in 36 and 44 Cal.
The collecting of really old Colt revolvers can easily threaten the bank account, or even shatter it. Not only is collecting the early Colts a costly pastime, you end up with guns not many would want to shoot, especially the black-powder percussion handguns from the Civil War or earlier periods. Of course there are many modern cap-and-ball guns made to satisfy the cravings of those who want to make lots of noise and smoke. But with most of them there’s something missing, as I’m sure many will tell you. The modern guns just are not Colts, though they may look the same. Our Technical Editor Ray Ordorica used to own an original Colt 1860 which, as might be expected, he shot on a regular basis. He shot a six-shot group at 15 yards with the gun that measured 1.4 inches center to center of the widest two, and four of ‘em made a hole less than half an inch between centers.

Czechoslovakia Vs. Serbia: Two Midsize 9mm Pistols Compete
In front of us for this report were two full-size 9mm pistols. They were a surplus CZ 75 (about $350) and a new Tokarev M70A, made in Serbia by Zastava (about $330). Would either of these guns be acceptable for home- or self-defense purposes? We tested with three types of ammo, Independent 115-grain FMJ, RWS 124-grain FMJ, and Black Hills 124-grain JHP +P. Here’s what we found.
